Public Relations Manager (Kings Dominion in Richmond, VA

General Scope of Position Under limited supervision, manages the public relations department in generating positive publicity through community relations activities, the news media and consumer awareness, while enhancing and protecting the park's image. Serves as the park's spokesperson and delivers all crisis communications. Oversees the park's social media program. Supervises subordinate professional staff. Performs related administrative, supervisory and professional work as required. Reports to the Director of Marketing.
Job Responsibilities
• Develops relationships and builds good rapport with news media.
• Develops and implements a strategically focused media relations plan.
• Identifies opportunities and interfaces with on-line coaster and theme park enthusiasts via web sites.
• Conducts press tours of the park and its facilities.
• Writes press kit materials, media releases, park position statements, scripts for marketing video projects and on-line content for the park's website.
• Produces video material.
• Serves as park spokesperson for interviews and at community events and public gatherings.
• Responds to inquiries from the media, general public and guests.
• Programs, edits and prepares graphics for use on the park's website.
• Prepares and manages the department's operating plan and annual budget.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications or related field supplemented by two to four years of professional experience in public relations and/or marketing,preferably in the entertainment field and with previous experience as a company spokesperson,or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays during the operating season.
